A new study- Nidazolide and Tizolide can delay aging and prolong life
Aging refers to the gradual decline or loss of organ function as time goes on. Aging is a natural process, but many diseases, such as heart failure, atherosclerosis, and neurodegenerative diseases, are closely related to aging.
Nidazonide is a FDA-approved antiparasitic and antiviral drug for the treatment of infections caused by parasites, protozoa, Cryptosporidium parvus, Giardia Lamberti, Blastocystis, Entamoeba histolytica, Roundworms, and viruses.
Previous studies have found that Nit and its active metabolite Tizolide (Tiz) induce mitochondrial uncoupling and activate the cellular AMPK pathway.
Recently, The research team from China Pharmaceutical University published a paper entitled "The clinical antiprotozoal drug nitazoxanide and its metabolite" in the journal Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B tizoxanide extend Caenorhabditis elegans lifespan and healthspan."
In this study, both Nidazolide and tizolide were found to extend the lifespan and healthy lifespan of C. elegans via the Akt/AMPK/sir 2.1/daf16 pathway.
Combined with previous studies, they found that nidazolide protects against age-related diseases, including hyperlipidemia, hepatic steatosis and atherosclerosis in mice, the researchers believe that Nidazolide has the potential to be an effective anti-aging drug.
